#Change the tide

Paralegal Job Training for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals

Job training programs for incarcerated individuals are effective in reducing recidivism rates. These programs provide inmates with the skills and knowledge necessary to secure employment upon release from prison. Furthermore, job training programs can help to break the cycle of poverty and crime, benefiting both the individual and society as a whole.

Finding a job after being released from prison can be a challenge. Many employers are reluctant to hire people with criminal histories, and competition for jobs can be fierce. However, some programs, such as A Rising Tide Academy, provide job training and placement assistance specifically for formerly incarcerated individuals. These programs can help participants learn new skills, build their resumes, and find employment. They may also offer other support services, such as housing assistance or transportation assistance. Learn more about our special project, From Prison to Paralegal.

From prison to paralegal

A Growing Trend...

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of ex-prisoners becoming paralegals. There are many reasons why ex-prisoners make great paralegals. They often have a strong desire to help others, they are highly resilient, and they have first-hand experience with the criminal justice system. As a result, they are uniquely positioned to help those who are facing criminal charges.

For many people, the criminal justice system is a revolving door. They are arrested, they serve time, and then they are released back into society with few resources and little support. But some are trying to break the cycle and build a better life for themselves.

One of those people is Michael Santos, who spent 26 years in prison before being released in 2013. While in prison, Santos pursued a law degree and after his release, he was able to get a job as a paralegal. He is now using his knowledge of the law to help others who are caught in the cycle of incarceration.

Santos is just one example of how someone with a criminal record can turn their life around. With hard work and determination, anyone can overcome the obstacles in their life and build a better future for themselves.
